Horse/Large Animal Treatment

There are numerous therapies available but this is entirely dependent on each individual case. The following list is a collection of therapies which Kathryn is skilled at delivering.

Treatments available;

Soft tissue mobilisations and manipulations - massage, fascial release, trigger point are but a few. All to restore the natural physiological state of soft tissues (muscles, fascia etc.)
Joint mobilisations - reduce stiffness, reduce pain
Electrotherapy - for enhancing tissue healing, reducing pain, improving muscle function and contraction (laser, muscle stimulation, TMM, pulsed magnetic therapy)
Ultrasound - facilitate natural healing processes, i.e. tendons, ligaments, muscle, etc.
Proprioceptive training - improve your horses' natural balance
Core stability - even animals have core stability and it is as vital for them as us
Strength training - like exercise therapies, a graduated approach to increasing strength of specific or global muscle groups
Expert advice - there is always much advice, guidance and support to give owners and trainers. This ensures the horse or large animal continues with their rehabilitation in the absence of the Physiotherapist
Exercise therapies - to guide your horse through a controlled and graduated exercise program
Stretches - to maximise your horse or large animals' range of movement

Oaklands places emphasis on teaching owners/trainers/carers various techniques to continue a ‘home exercise program’ for ongoing management. Alternative therapies and advice are encouraged where necessary. Working within the healthcare profession has taught Kathryn to be part of a multi-disciplinary team where many professionals are involved to obtain the best outcome for each case.
